European Blue Flag is a symbol of high environmental standards, high safety services and good sanitation on beaches. And the award is only given to those who maintain high water quality that meets European legislation.

This time, all north Devon beaches and South West waters have met with all Blue Flag tests. Last year, Devon was awarded 11 Blue Flags. Apart from this, Devon also won 33 Tidy Britain Seaside Awards in 2005. Only Wildersmouth and Hele at Ilfracombe, and Combe Martin have not been able to qualify these rigorous tests.

Polluted shores and bacteria infested water of the beaches always generates troubles for the visitors. In this context, Devon beaches have a reason for being so popular amongst the holidaymakers. The two long seashores (northern side faces the Atlantic and south is towards the English Channel) boasts hundreds of beaches, which attract locals as well as visitors.
