Experts predict that warm weather conditions attract more sharks to swim closer to the coast as the numbers of attacks have increased over the years. Surf Life Saving Statistics reveal that there were 171 shark alarms in this summer season, as it was 124 in last year. This year shark sightings is more than double on eastern beaches of Sydney (19 in 2004-05 to 45 in 2005-06). It is anticipating the trend will continue this year. However, a fewer number of sharks are being caught on NSW beaches.
A NSW Surf Life Saving spokesperson said that although larger sharks have deter by nets and number have also reduced but small-sized sharks are still come in a big number.
