It may rob the local surfers off their waves of surfing power. But, when looking into the environmental needs, sports and tourism may have to be sacrificed to an extend. Yes, it is on these lines, the world’s biggest wave energy farm will have its way off the coast of Cornwall.

10 miles off the coast of Hayle, near St Ives, a giant electrical terminal - the Wave Hub - would be constructed. It is through the giant high-voltage undersea electrical terminal, wave energy devices will transmit energy via a cable back to the National Grid on shore.

And for this construction, more than £21m of funding has just been agreed! Expected to start operating next year, it is likely to support the largest array of wave energy machines in the world.

This new farm would surely take the far-less-advanced wave power to a new horizon of renewable energy technologies, compared to the wind and solar power.

Though this robbing of the energy from the waves may lower them by as much as 11 per cent, disappointing the surfers, these renewable are necessary to cap climate change-triggering emissions, which otherwise are generated from traditional energy farms.

True, the priority between sports, tourism and environment need to be spotted. And, it seems the UK authority has just picked up the right necessity of the time.
